About

Ian Duncan, born on June 23, 1961, is a prominent Kenyan rally driver renowned for his achievements in the Safari Rally Kenya. He secured victory in the 42nd Trustbank Safari Rally in 1994, marking the only time a Kenyan has won a World Rally Championship (WRC) round.

Duncan’s involvement with the Safari Rally began in 1983 when he debuted driving a Nissan pick-up, finishing ninth overall and winning his class. Throughout the 1990s, he consistently performed well in the event, achieving seven consecutive top-ten finishes from 1990 to 1996, despite the rally’s challenging conditions.

In addition to his 1994 victory, Duncan secured a third-place finish in the 1993 Safari Rally, contributing to Toyota’s remarkable 1-2-3-4 finish that year.

Beyond the Safari Rally, Duncan has been a dominant force in Kenyan motorsport, winning the Kenyan Rally Championship six times (1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2000, and 2011). He also triumphed in the East African Safari Classic Rally in 2009, driving a 1968 Ford Mustang.

Duncan’s enduring presence in the Safari Rally and Kenyan motorsport has solidified his status as one of the country’s most accomplished rally drivers.
