In 2022 I first learned about WANMAN. Never a company made a RC version of the Group A Impreza, this catched my attention. Of course the WRC (2 door) and later versions of Tamiya were well known, but a scale model of the Group A was a different game.

Collaboration

Their Group A Acropolis version got me thinking the Safari Rally would be an interesting version. Finally I collaborated with Xavi (WANMAN) to recreate the iconic safari rally parts in 1/10 scale. I photographed my genuine parts and he created 3D models in 1/10 size. The process took a while but in 2023 the product was released.

The model comes as a kit to build yourself and you can use the Tamiya base model (TT01 or TT02) as starting point for the body. I’m not very good in building models so I asked Xavi to do it. He did an amazing job!

The lightmodule light up the headlights, safari mirrors, turn signals and brakelights. Xavi also added the pilots, they hide the motors and wires when you look inside.

As you can see, this model is a 1/10 scale of my own car featuring my startnumbers, license plate and names on the front wings. Super cool!!

WANMAN

WANMAN is a project by Xavi Rojas, an RC and rally enthusiast from Igualada, Spain. Frustrated by the unavailability of a 1/10th scale Subaru Impreza 555 bodyshell—a car that ignited his passion for rallying in the mid-90s—he embarked on creating it himself. Leveraging his design skills, Xavi dedicated extensive time to CAD design, 3D printing, vacuum forming, and designing accompanying stickers and packaging. The project, completed in 2021, reflects his dedication to bringing this iconic rally car model to life for fellow enthusiasts.
